Verona amazing even in the rain.
Arrived in Verona today. After walking around looking for the place we had been recommended by a friend, We finally found it The Hotel Giulietta & Romeo. It wouldn't be Verona without a hotel with this name. The hotel is a 3* and just of one of the main shopping streets. We arrived wet and slightly tired from walking around in circles (bad planning but worth it) The staff greeted us with smiles and within a couple of minutes we had all the information we need and where heading off to our room. Upon opening the door we felt that our friend didn't steer us wrong. The room was clean, spacious and well decorated. After a few minutes resting we left the room and headed back out into the street to look for Casa di Guilietta. It was well signed posted so didn't take long for us to find. On entering the courtyard the small passage is graffitied with peoples messages of love. The courtyard is a small but charming place with a statue of Guilietta. They say that if you rub Guilietta's breast it will bring you good luck. Just above the statue is the famous balcony from which she stood and spoke with Romeo. Even thought it's late November Verona is still a very busy place and due to the rain you get to play the umbrella game ( it consists of dodging umbrellas so you don't lose an eye) To our surprise we found that Verona had a very beautiful Christmas market in full swing. The smell of food cooking and the sights of a European Christmas market in such a beautiful setting. Oh and not forgetting the taste of Mulled wine was just perfect on this November afternoon. We also visited Castelvecchio and Verona Arena both are worth visiting. 3 new photos added today. 2 from the UK and 1 from France.
The 1st photo was taken in 2012 at Rhyddings Park in Lancashire at an event organised by the local civic centre called 'Weather or Not' The 2nd photo was taken in Fairhaven near Blackpool, Lancashire facing out to sea. And the 3rd photo is a place called Venasque in France. |
